Making Better Men

Lambda Chapter
We know that parents have particular concerns regarding fraternal life, that's why we encourage you to get all the information before deciding if Alpha Gamma Rho is right for your son. Feel free to browse below and learn more about Greek Life and our fraternity specifically. Hopefully, it helps alleviate some worries and helps you become comfortable with the idea of your son becoming a fraternity man.

We are two fraternities in one

Professional -

Alpha Gamma Rho was founded on agriculture, and we uphold this tradition and provide ourselves in agricultural as our professional bond. Yes, at one-time agriculture meant farmers, plows, and cows. However, agriculture has evolved into vast categories to incorporate all majors and careers dealing with natural resources, food and fiber, life sciences, biotechnology, and the biological sciences. The professional aspect also allows for extensive networking with the thousands of AGR alumni in all fields across the country. Alpha Gamma Rho is an organization a graduate wants on his resume.
Social -

At the University of Minnesota, Alpha Gamma Rho is part of the Inter-Fraternity Greek Council where we have a voice of the laws that govern the Greek life on campus. Also, we are fully capable of hosting and attending social functions for Greeks on campus and within our Fraternity house. Our social tradition is our annual Spittoon game, played football, basketball, and softball against another fraternity on campus.

Academics / Professional Development

Hazing / Pledging

AGR is very proud to be one of the very first fraternities to completely outlaw hazing and pledging. That's right—in AGR there is no pledging, so each member joins, right away, with the same rights and responsibilities as everyone else in the chapter. The AGR Brotherhood Program, implemented in 1992, outlines 4 parameters:

  • No more pledging
  • If it's required of a freshman, it's required of a senior
  • No more dominant subservient relationships
  • Rewards should be based on subjective criteria

There are countless opportunities to be involved in leadership opportunities, both within the chapter and on campus. Also, by being part of a national organization, each chapter is required to attend yearly Leadership Seminars, as well as bi-annual National Conventions where they will be trained by professional staff in the areas of leadership and professional development, among others.

  • During our yearly  Recruitment School, we demonstrate how to seek out the best brothers.
  • We have two amazing chapter advisors who provide beneficial educational resources, career guidance, and professional development.
  • Check out our annual  Leadership Seminars. Attendees can also sign up for Recruitment Academy!
  • We also have a biennial  National Convention.

These are just a few of the opportunities provided to our members to grow, learn, and to become better men!
